What this course about?

Develop the skills needed to plan, create, and deliver presentations to a range of audiences. This module sets out advanced knowledge relating to planning and designing presentations, as well as the skills needed to produce advanced presentation outputs using a presentation application.

The Presentations (Advanced) module covers the advanced skills needed to plan and create effective presentations, manage and protect presentations, as well as the technical considerations of giving presentations.

Presentations are helpful in a wide range of business settings and are now a standard communication tool. At the same time, how information is presented has a big impact on how well that information is understood. Workers need to be able to communicate complex information in ways that suit different types of audience and for different purposes.

Course outline
  • 1.1 Audience and Environment
    Understand how audience demography (age, educational level, occupation, cultural background) and knowledge of subject impacts on planning of a presentation.
    Understand venue considerations like: lighting, room size and layout.
    Understand technical presentation considerations like: video equipment, audio equipment, presentation accessories, connectivity.
  • 1.2 Design, Content and Layout
    Understand timing considerations like: tailor content to time available, allow appropriate time interval for each slide.
    Understand that presentation dialogue is supported by graphical objects and text. Understand the importance of limiting the level of detail of graphical objects and text.
    Be aware of accessibility design considerations like: font size, alternative text, colours, contrast, limiting animations and transitions.
  • 2.1 Slide Masters
    Insert a new slide master, new layout.
    Edit slide master layouts like: bulleted list format, background colour and fill effects, placeholder position, placeholder deletion, name.
    Apply a custom slide master to specified slides.
  • 2.2 Templates
    Create a new template, theme.
    Save a presentation as a template, modify a template, theme.
  • 3.1 Formatting Drawn Objects
    Apply background fill effects to a drawn object.
    Apply a transparency effect to a drawn object.
    Apply a 3-D effect and settings to a drawn object.
    Pick up a style from a drawn object and apply it to another drawn object.
    Change the default formatting for new drawn objects.
  • 3.2 Formatting Pictures, Images
    Adjust picture, image brightness and contrast.
    Display a picture, image in greyscale, black and white, washout format.
    Change colours in a picture. Restore original colours in a picture.
  • 3.3 Handling Graphical Objects
    Display, hide ruler, grid and guides. Move guides. Turn on, off snap objects to grid.
    Position a graphical object (picture, image, drawn object) on a slide using specified horizontal and vertical co-ordinates.
    Add, modify, remove alternative text.
    Distribute selected graphical objects horizontally, vertically relative to a slide.
    Distribute selected graphical objects horizontally, vertically relative to other graphical objects.
    Crop a graphical object.
    Convert a picture to a drawn object and edit the drawn object.
    Save a graphical object as a file format like: bmp, gif, jpeg, png.
    Omit, display background graphics on a slide, slides.
  • 4.1 Using Charts
    Format chart title, legend, data labels, axes labels.
    Change the chart type for a defined data series.
    Change the gap, overlap between columns, bars in a chart.
    Format columns, bars, plot area, chart area to display an image.
    Change scale of value axis: minimum, maximum number to display, major interval between plotted numbers in a chart.
  • 4.2 Using Diagrams
    Create a diagram using built- in options or other available drawing tools like: flowchart, cycle, pyramid.
    Add, move, delete shapes in a diagram.
    Add, change, delete connectors in a flowchart.
  • 5.1 Audio, Video
    Embed online video into a slide.
    Insert video to play automatically, on mouse click.
    Insert audio to play automatically, on mouse click.
    Create an audio recording.
    Create a screen recording.
    Insert audio to play in background in your presentation for an appropriate duration.
  • 5.2 Animation
    Change custom animation effects and settings. Change sequence of custom animations in a slide.
    Apply automatic settings so that bulleted points will dim to a specified colour after animation.
    Animate chart elements by series, by category, by elements in series. Animate, do not animate chart grid and legend.
  • 6.1 Linking, Embedding
    Insert an action button. Modify settings to navigate to a specified slide, custom show, file, URL.
    Link data into a slide and display as an object, icon.
    Update, break a link.
    Insert an image from a file with a link to the file.
    Embed data into a slide and display as an object.
    Edit, delete embedded data.
  • 6.2 Importing, Exporting, Securing
    Merge slide(s), a complete presentation, a word-processed outline into an existing presentation.
    Save a specified slide as a file format: gif, jpeg, bmp.
    Save a presentation as another file type like: rtf, video format.
    Add, remove password protection for a presentation to open, to modify.
  • 7.1 Custom Shows
    Create, show a named custom slide show.
    Copy, edit, delete a custom slide show.
  • 7.2 Slide Show Settings
    Apply timings to, remove timings from slide transitions.
    Apply settings to a slide show so that it loops continuously when played, does not loop continuously when played.
    Apply settings so that slides advance manually, advance using timings if present. Apply settings so that slide show is presented with animation, without animation.
  • 7.3 Slide Show Delivery
    Add, erase pen annotations during a slide show.
    Display black, white screen during a slide show. Pause, restart, end a slide show.
    Use presenter view for notes, slide preview, slide navigation, time.
    Understand presentation delivery considerations like: practice (content and time), tone of voice (word emphasis, pitch, volume, intonation, pauses), body language and posture, use of storytelling.

Description of training formats:

  • Self-paced learning or e-Learning means you can learn in your own time and control the amount of material to consume. There is no need to complete the assignments and take the courses at the same time as other learners.
  • Blended learning or "hybrid learning" means you can combine Self-paced learning or e-Learning with traditional instructor-led classroom or webinar activities. This approach requires physical presence of both teacher and student in physical or virtual (webinars) classrooms or workshops. Webinar is a seminar or presentation that takes place on the internet, allowing participants in different locations to see and hear the presenter, ask questions, and sometimes answer polls.
  • Instructor-led training, or ILT, means that the learning can be delivered in a lecture or classroom format, as an interactive workshop, as a demonstration under the supervision and control of qualified trainer or instructor with the opportunity for learners to practice, or even virtually, using video-conferencing tools.

When forming groups of students, special attention is paid to important criteria - the same level of knowledge and interests among all students of the course, in order to maintain stable group dynamics during training.

Group dynamics is the development of a group in time, which is caused by the interaction of participants with each other and external influence on the group. In other words, these are the stages that the training group goes through in the process of communicating with the coach and among themselves.

Feedback in the form of assessments and recommendations is given to students during the course of training with the participation of an instructor and is saved in the course card and student profile.

In order to control the quality of the services provided, students can evaluate the quality and training programme. Forms of assessment of the quality of training differ for courses with the participation of an instructor and those that are held in a self-paced format.

For courses with an instructor, start and end dates are indicated. At the same time, it is important to pay attention to the deadlines for passing tests, exams and practical tasks. If the specified deadlines are missed, the student may not be allowed to complete the entire course programme.

A personal account is a space for storing your training preferences, test and exam results, grades on completed training, as well as your individual plan for professional and personal development.

Users of the personal account have access to articles and blogs in specialized areas, as well as the ability to rate the completed training and leave comments under the articles and blogs of our instructors and technical authors

Registered users of a personal account can have various roles, including the role of a student, instructor or content developer. However, for all roles, except for the student role, you will need to go through an additional verification procedure to confirm your qualifications.

Based on the results of training, students are issued a certificate of training. All training certificates fall into three main categories:

  • Certificate of Attendance - students who successfully completed the course but did not pass the tests and exams can apply for a certificate of attendance.
  • Certificate of Completion - students who have successfully completed a course could apply for a Certificate of Completion, this type of certificate is often required for compliance training.
  • Verified Certificate - it is a verified certificate that is issued when students have passed exams under the supervision of a dedicated proctor.

You can always download a copy of your training certificate in PDF format in your personal account.

You will still have access to the course after completing it, provided that your account is active and not compromised and Tecedu is still licensed for the course. So if you want to review specific content in the course after completing it, or do it all over again, you can easily do so. In rare cases, instructors may remove their courses from the Tecedu marketplace, or we may need to remove a course from the platform for legal reasons.

During the training, you may encounter various forms of testing and knowledge testing. The most common assessment methods are:

  • preliminary (base-line assessment) - to determine the current level of knowledge and adapt the personal curriculum
  • intermediate - to check the progress of learning
  • final - to complete training and final assessment of knowledge and skills, can be in the form of a project, testing or practical exam

Travel to the place of full-time training is not included in the cost of training. Accommodation during full-time studies can be included in the full board tuition fees.
