Career synopsis
Over 28 years of diversified international academic and oil and gas industry experience with special emphasis on unconventional resources, integrated reservoir studies, modeling and simulation, teaching different petroleum, chemical and engineering courses, conducting research related to chemical, oil and gas industries and supervising research projects.
Currently, I am a petroleum engineering professor and associate dean for undergraduate studies in the school of sciences and engineering at the American University in Cairo. Prior to joining the AUC I was a professor at the American University of Iraq in Sulaimani (AUIS). Before joining AUIS I was the founding Head of Petroleum Engineering Department at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic and AD Poly SPE Students Chapter Advisor. Prior to joining AD Poly, I worked as a Research and Development Manager of Dhahran Research Center at Weatherford International (Geosience Development). Before that, I worked as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, specialized in an unconventional resources (tight and shale gas) at Weatherford Saudi Arabia. Before joining Saudi Arabia office, I worked as a senior reservoir engineer (modeling and simulation) in the reservoir engineering group of the Weatherford Well Engineering Center of Excellence in Dubai. I obtained my BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering (1990) from Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas, Moscow-Russia, Master of Chemical Engineering and PhD in Chemical/Reservoir Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-USA in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Before joining Weatherford, I had held different positions in the academia. In 2009 I was promoted to a full professor of chemical engineering at Mutah University, Jordan.
I have participated in different university-wide strategic planning, contributed intensively to different programs design and steering of multiple academic programs and I am currently an active international expert for the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) evaluating international programs for accreditation compliance as an ABET program evaluator (PEV).
I am an active member of SPE and many other technical societies at local, regional and international levels. Authored/coauthored 110+ publications, including journal articles, book chapters in the areas of flow through porous media, hydrocarbon reservoir engineering, enhanced oil recovery, carbon capture and sequestration, unconventional tight and shale gas, managed pressure drilling, non-aqueous phase liquid transport, photocatalysis, two phase flow modeling and simulation, Dead Sea related-research, and water and environmental research. Recipient of several technical and academic awards. I am a recipient of several technical and academic awards and was listed among notable alumni in 2017 by the Worldwide Association of Notable Alumni (WANA).
