Environmental Monitoring Coordinator

Purpose: 

To manage all aspects offshore environmental monitoring programmes, including survey design, planning, logistics, contracts and regulatory approvals, verify environmental inputs to all Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and major project documentation. Play leading role in stakeholder consultation on environmental issues in both. 

Accountabilities and Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and managing annual offshore environmental survey programmes. 

  • Supervising designing and scoping of all offshore environmental surveys and monitoring programmes, with due attention to safety, technical and commercial considerations. 

  • Negotiating regulatory approvals for offshore environmental monitoring programme documents. Assume responsibility for the completion of all commitments made by in these documents. 

  • Managing contracts for field work, laboratory analysis and reporting in line with company policies and standards. 

  • Supervising and training Survey Co-ordinator and other staff as required. 

  • Supervising timely procurement and appropriate maintenance of equipment and materials. 

  • Assuming overall responsibility for quality assurance/control in all aspects of the implementation of offshore environmental monitoring programmes, ensuring appropriate levels of documentation at all stages. 

  • Participating as leading company representative in offshore environmental surveys. 

  • Carrying out quality assessments on EIAs and environmental components of other major project documents. 

  • Preparing and presenting summary materials on monitoring results, EIAs and other environmental issues for stakeholder consultation meetings. 

  • Assisting in the preparation of responses to enquiries and claims regarding company environmental protection and performance.

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment, by abiding by Statutory Health, Safety & Environmental Regulations. 

  • Corporate Health, Safety & Environment Policy, and applying company Safety Management Systems. 

Main Interfaces: 

Company: 

PM’s, head of units, corporate HSE functions to provide assistance and receive inputs. 

External: 

Contractors, regulators, scientific community. 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Graduate in marine ecology or related environmental discipline. 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience of working as environmental scientist, gaining familiarity with international HSE standards for marine surveys, including health and safety at work. 

  • Extensive practical experience in conducting offshore environmental surveys and EIAs.  

  • Experience in organisation and leadership of teams. 

  • Experience in dealing with national/regional regulators and community interest groups on environmental issue. 

Required Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of the offshore industry, especially its processes and environmental impacts. 

  • Knowledge of international requirements, practices and standards for environmental surveys and EIAs. 

  • Good inter-personal and organisational skills. 

  • Ability to manage teams.
