В пластовых условиях природные газы находятся в равновесии с водой и поэтому всегда насыщены влагой.

Количество влаги в газе зависит от его давления, температуры и состава: чем выше температура, при которой газ контактирует с водой, тем больше паров воды содержит природный газ; чем выше давление, тем меньше паров воды переходит в газ. Наличие в газе избыточной влаги вызывает ряд серьезных проблем при транспортировании газа.
