В настоящее время актуальным является использование тепловой энергии вторичных ресурсов. На щельфовых месторождениях северного Каспия, на МЛСП широко используются 4-х ступенчатые центробежные компрессоры для откачки газа потребителю с давлением 16,0 МПа. При сжатии газа на каждой ступени, газ нагревается до 130 0С и если использовать теплонасосные технологии и цикла Ренкина, на МЛСП можно получить дополнительное количество электроэнергии.
