Career synopsis
Mohamed Bashandy is a consummate HSE and Process Safety professional with a remarkable 20-year trajectory in diverse industrial settings, highlighted by his strategic leadership and unwavering commitment to safety excellence. With a foundational degree in Chemical Engineering from Cairo University, Mohamed has continuously expanded his expertise, obtaining an MBA from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and a Master of Science in Process Safety and Loss Prevention from Sheffield University, UK, where he graduated with distinction.

Currently, Mohamed serves as the Projects HSE Manager at Pharaonic Petroleum Company (PhPC), a joint venture between BP and ADNOC. In this role since December 2020, he oversees all occupational and process safety initiatives across various project phases—from concept selection through to commissioning. He is instrumental in reviewing and participating in comprehensive process safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA, among others. His responsibilities also extend to developing robust contractor management systems and enforcing stringent HSE and process safety requirements, thus ensuring alignment with legal guidelines and company policies.

Prior to his current role, Mohamed was the HSE Team Leader at British Petroleum (BP) from December 2017 to December 2020, where he led the HSE efforts during the construction, commissioning, and startup phases of projects. He maintained high standards of safety by overseeing the performance of contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and BP's internal safety standards. His work not only involved incident management and risk assessment but also supported the implementation of BP's Control of Work programs across various assets.

From February 2012 to December 2017, Mohamed headed the HSE and Process Safety department at PhPC. Here, he owned the HSE management system, ensuring compliance with ISO14001 and ISO 45001 standards through rigorous internal audits and participations in DNV ISRS auditing. His role was crucial in developing comprehensive process safety management programs, establishing critical safety procedures, and managing environmental aspects of both onshore and offshore projects.

Earlier, from February 2004 to February 2012, he was an HSE department section head at Al Qantara/Al Mansoura Petroleum Company. His responsibilities encompassed participating in HAZOP studies, commissioning and operation of oil plants, and leading environmental and safety audits. His tenure here solidified his expertise in operational safety and environmental compliance.

Mohamed's educational background, coupled with his extensive professional experience, positions him as a leader in HSE and process safety training. At the Technical Education Academy, he leverages his deep knowledge and practical experience to provide training on core HSE concepts, crisis management systems, and process safety, emphasizing a culture of safety and compliance.
